At the end of April 2023, I will be leaving my post as Director of the Community Development Financial Institutions Fund (CDFI Fund) and returning to my hometown to serve as President of the Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC).
The U.S. Treasury Department has been my professional home for 15 years. All of it spent working in or with the CDFI Fund. As Director for the last four years, it has been an honor to work on policy and solutions to meet the credit and capital needs of our most underserved communities.
I am also honored to have served along a group of people whose dedication to the mission of the CDFI Fund makes it one of the best places to be in the federal government. Together, we supported the greatest expansion of CDFI Fund resources in history. We regrouped after the longest government shutdown of record to find ourselves front and center in the government’s efforts to support our communities through a global epidemic. We administered $3 billion in grant funding, the highest single appropriation to date. We continued the redesign of the core of the CDFI Fund—Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) Certification. All of this while continuing to administer programs and manage operations that enables the work of the nationwide CDFI network. I am so thankful that the CDFI Fund team trusted me as their leader through it all.
Now, my hometown is calling me back. This was one of the most difficult decisions of my career. The opportunity to do the work I love, in the city I love, is an exciting, yet unexpected, new chapter. I look forward to remaining a part of the CDFI network and supporting economic growth and development for the citizens and neighborhoods that introduced me to community development over 30 years ago.
Over the next two months, I will work with Treasury leadership and Marcia Sigal, Deputy Director of Policy and Programs, to ensure a seamless transition. Marcia will assume the role of Acting Director in May 2023.
With appreciation and gratitude,
