Just Launched- GeoMaps @ SSA!

Social Security launched Geospatial Mapping at SSA. Our new initiative, GeoMaps, compliments the Open Government and Open Data Initiatives. Our first public-facing geospatial map, the Old-Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance (OASDI) Beneficiaries and Benefits by State 2014, visually displays the distribution of Social Security beneficiaries and benefit dollars by state. This map lays the groundwork for our publishing other public maps.

The public can view this map on our Open Government Map Gallery at http://www.ssa.gov/open/geospatial.html, and GeoPlatform.gov at http://go.usa.gov/xTYfR, a Federal platform to display and promote Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications and geospatial data sets that are also part of Data.gov.  SSA is now one of many organizations (e.g. federal, state, local, university) participating GeoPlatform, a site managed by the Federal Geographic Data Community, which is chaired by the Department of the Interior.
