Happy National Small Business Week! (#NSBW2026)
May 3rd through May 9th, we celebrate the resilience, innovation, and unwavering spirit of America’s entrepreneurs. At the Office of Inspector General, we believe the best way to honor small businesses is by protecting the integrity of the programs designed to help them thrive.
Fraud, waste, and abuse of SBA programs is a direct attack against American taxpayers. When fraudsters exploit federal relief and contracting programs, they steal directly from the hands of the eligible small business owners who need it most.
That is why our auditors and investigators work tirelessly across the nation to root out fraud, waste, and abuse. Our enforcement posture has provided taxpayers with more than a 100-fold return on investment, resulting in $17.8 billion in total dollar accomplishments.
We need your help to protect the small business ecosystem. Oversight is a collaborative effort. If you suspect fraud, waste, or abuse in any SBA program—from traditional 7(a) loans to 8(a) contracting and pandemic relief—we urge you to speak up.
This week on our social media channels, we will be highlighting major investigative wins, staggering oversight facts, and essential fraud prevention tips. Follow us on LinkedIn and X/Twitter to join the conversation.
Thank you for your commitment to American small businesses!
