National Veterans Small Business Week: What a week!

Once again, National Veterans Small Business Week (NVSBW) was an exciting week full of workshops, shared resources, and new connections made.

A big thank you to the City of Tacoma, where Mayor Victoria Woodards and the City Council kicked things off by proclaiming the week of Oct. 31 to Nov. 4, 2022, as National Veterans Small Business Week in the City of Tacoma. While noteworthy events took place throughout the country, our region's Veterans Business Outreach Center (VBOC) did an exceptional job delivering another successful Operation Entrepreneur across four states!

The celebratory week may be behind us, but the SBA continues to support veteran and military-connected entrepreneurs in many ways, including access to capital, training and technical assistance, and government contracting opportunities.

During National Veterans Small Business Week, SBA Administrator Isabella Casillas Guzman announced updates to the planned launch of SBA’s new Veteran Small Business Certification Program—including her intention to grant a one-year extension to firms verified by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)’s Vets First Verification Program through the Center for Verification and Evaluation (CVE) as of the January 1, 2023 transfer date.

Scheduled to officially begin operations and accept new applications in January 2023, the Veteran Small Business Certification Program will be the Agency’s primary vehicle for handling certification for veteran-owned small businesses (VOSBs) and service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses (SDVOSBs) —important classifications that enable those businesses to qualify for sole-source and set-aside federal contracting awards.
