Cyber attacks are a growing concern for small businesses. Common threats include malware, ransomware and phishing. Join the Small Business Administration and Dakota State University for a discussion on available cybersecurity defense and recovery services currently available for South Dakota small businesses. As the holiday shopping season kicks off, it’s a great time for small business owners to increase measures to keep their business and customers cyber safe!
In between the big box holidays of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, falls Small Business Saturday. On Saturday, November 26th, you can support entrepreneurs who are the unsung heroes in our local communities and central to our prosperity and health as a nation. For many, personal economic empowerment through small business ownership is often the best, and only available, ticket to the American Dream.
Why should you shop local? When South Dakota residents choose to shop at small local businesses, they make a huge impact in their community by supporting an important cornerstone of the local economy. At the same time, strong numbers of customers patronizing local businesses encourage the entrepreneurial spirit that created existing businesses and can inspire others to be added to the community’s retail offerings. For every $100 spent at a local business, $68 stays in that town. Spending $100 at a national chain means only $43 stays in town. Small business owners know how important it is to cultivate a thriving local community that shops close to home
The South Dakota SBA District Office encourages all citizens to recognize the importance of local small businesses by shopping at these establishments on Small Business Saturday as well as throughout the year. These small businesses are owned by your friends and neighbors who support your community all year. Take time in return to support them this year – visit a few retailers you may never have shopped with before.
