It's no secret that veterans make great entrepreneurs. Thanks to years of service to our country, they're mission-oriented, strategic, resilient, and well-equipped with the skills needed to start a successful business. And with 1.76 million veteran-owned business contributing over $1 trillion to the U.S. economy in annual sales, it's evident that veterans continue to serve our country just like they did in the military.
Each and every day, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has worked hard to provide additional support and guidance to service members, veterans, National Guard and Reserve members, and military spouses at all stages of small business ownership. These community members continue to march beyond the events of the pandemic and use what they've learned over the past few years to propel their businesses forward. No matter where you are located, the SBA and its extensive partner network are available across the country to provide the resources you need to remain strong and grow your business. The SBA provides transition assistance, entrepreneurial training, disaster assistance, access to capital, and government contracting opportunities right in your local neighborhood.
During National Veterans Small Business Week (NVSBW), the U.S. Small Business Administration celebrates, connects, and empowers service members (including National Guard and Reserve), veterans, and military spouse entrepreneurs and business owners - past, present, and future. Now in its ninth year, NVSBW raises awareness of veteran small business ownership and encourages communities to support their veteran - and military - owned businesses.
Throughout the week, SBA resource partners, and local organizations across the country will focus on highlighting various aspects of the entrepreneurial journey for veteran small business owners and the agency's support of this critical community in hybrid, in-person, and virtual formats. Topics include transition assistance, entrepreneurial training, government contracting, disaster assistance and access to capital resources. Currently, there are over 100 virtual events that are free and open to the public.
