SBA Seattle District Director welcomes the attendees to the Native Lending Intitative Listening Session

SBA Office of Native American Affairs visits Seattle District

Last week, the Seattle District was pleased to host Jackson Brossy, Assistant Administrator of the SBA Office of Native American Affairs, who held a listening session centered on SBA's Native Lending Initiative. The initiative, announced in May of 2022, aims to identify and resolve issues and challenges that small businesses from Native and Tribal communities face when accessing federal resources and programs.

Seattle District Director Kerrie Hurd convened a group of Native Tribal Council leaders, small business owners, and regional lenders to share the challenges they experience. Brossy moderated the discussion and offered a presentation on the Native Lending Initiative as well as programs and resources available to support Native-owned small businesses. In attendance were U.S. Representative Derek Kilmer (WA 6th District), who offered opening remarks, as well as Jennifer Kim, Associate Administrator of the SBA Office of Field Operations.

We were also grateful for the opportunity to visit with 8th Generation, a Tribally-owned company based in Seattle, to hear about the work they are doing to promote Native artists and designers, as well as the challenges they have faced as a small business.
