NWBC Celebrates Women's Equality Day

Happy Women's Equality Day!

This month, we were happy to celebrate Women's Equality Day! Over 102 years ago, women got the right to vote through the 19th Amendment. It took another 45 years for women of color to get that same right through the Voting Rights Act of 1965. 23 years after that, all women got the right to apply for a business loan on their own through H.R. 5050.
We don’t know what tomorrow may bring, but what we do know is we are proud to celebrate women’s equality today.

The Word From Upstairs: Updates From OWBO and SBA

Updates from OWBO

Earlier this month, Assistant Administrator Natalie Madeira Cofield announced she would be departing from the Office of Women's Business Ownership (OWBO). We here at NWBC would like to thank Natalie for her dedication to advancing women's entrepreneurship and wish her the best of luck in her future pursuits.

Updates from SBA

August has been a month full of accomplishments at the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). Some highlights included:

  • The ChallengeHER initiative will be starting once again. This initiative provides outreach and educational opportunities to support women entrepreneurs in pursuing government contracting. It is a part of a collaboration between SBA, Women Impacting Public Policy (WIPP), and American Express.
  • On the topic of collaboration, SBA announced a co-sponsorship with Small Business Majority on a webinar series focused on addressing "economic challenges facing small businesses today."
  • On August 25th, SBA held an online panel discussion celebrating rural entrepreneurship and diving into resources of use.

Speaking of rural entrepreneurship, topics relating to rural women's entrepreneurship were highlighted across NWBC's social media platforms over the month of August. Be sure to follow NWBC on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter to help continue the conversation and learn about:
