Montana Entrepreneurial Educator Receives National Recognition for Veteran Support

WASHINGTON – Today, SBA Montana District Director, Brent Donnelly, announced Jason Nitschke, Regional Director of the Great Falls Small Business Development Center at Great Falls Development Authority, has been named Montana’s 2021 Boots to Business (B2B) National Instructor of the Year.

Boots to Business (B2B) is an entrepreneurial education and training program offered by SBA as part of the Department of Defense's Transition Assistance Program (TAP). B2B provides participants with an overview of business ownership and is open to transitioning service members (including National Guard and Reserve) and their spouses.

Nitschke joined the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) hosted by the Great Falls Development Authority in October 2014, and launched the first B2B in November of that year. There were 38 attendees. Since that time he has counseled hundreds of potential veteran entrepreneurs and their spouses on the many facets of running a small business. Under his direction, the Great Falls SBDC has been named the Best Managed Center (2014) and Top Performing Center (2016). Nitschke received the U.S. Small Business Administration's Veterans Service Award in 2017 and the America's SBDC State Star Award in 2018.

“It’s an honor to recognize Jason for his outstanding commitment to Montana’s Veteran Communities,” said Brent Donnelly, SBA Montana District Director. “His contributions to the Boots to Business program go far beyond what is required and his past experience as a business owner brings true value to this training curriculum.”

In addition, to being a professional journalist, Jason has operated two small businesses. The first was as sole proprietor of JNitschke Photography in Denver. The second was as owner of Carondelet Estate Services, LLC in St. Louis. Jason is a 1997 graduate of the University of Montana-Missoula School of Journalism. He earned a master's degree in communication from Hawaii Pacific University-Honolulu in 2002. As the Small Business Development Center Regional Director in Great Falls, Jason counsels entrepreneurs throughout the Sweetgrass Region in the start-up and growth process. He also works with existing businesses to maximize their market share and profit margins.

A celebration and award presentation will be held on May 18, 2022, at 4pm at Electric City Coffee, 319 Central Ave., Great Falls, MT. Refreshments will be provided by Great Falls Development Authority.
