Announcing Three of SBA's Top Minn. Small Businesses for 2022

Beth Fynbo

Busy Baby LLC is SBA’s Minnesota Veteran-Owned Small Business of the Year

At the age of 40, Army Veteran Beth Fynbo had her first child and came up with an idea for a product to solve a problem all new parents have, a silicone placemat to keep baby's toys in place. The patented design allows caregivers to suction the mat to a smooth surface and use the tether system to attach baby's favorite toys, keeping them within arms' reach and off the ground.

Fynbo has benefited from SBA’s programs and services through her relationships with the Small Business Development Center, which provided technical assistance, Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation, which provided funding and technical assistance, and SCORE, which helped with the patents and trademarks needed to protect her investment. Ian Roback

Ian Roback is SBA’s Minnesota Young Entrepreneur of the Year

Ian Roback, founder of Clear Water Nitrate Reduction, is the 2022 SBA Minnesota Young Entrepreneur of the Year.

CWNR works to decrease agricultural runoff pollutants in waterways and educate the public on pollution threats. Following up on research done during his graduate studies at St. Olaf College and Rutgers, Roback, created and patented a constructed wetland that reduces more than 70% of nitrates in agricultural runoff with a small land footprint through natural processes.

Roback received assistance from the SBA through our partners SCORE and the Small Business Development Center, which supported him with business planning and marketing help. Read the full release here.

Jade In

Soyko International Inc. is SBA’s Minnesota Minority-Owned Small Business of the Year

Jade In, owner of Soyko International, visited Gary, Minn. on a business trip and saw how large, rich and beautiful the region was. In 2000, she established J&J Corporation, a company working with the domestic growth, sales and export of domestic grains. Seeing the potential in the Gary area, in 2009 her corporation took over Circle C Seeds, renaming it to Soyko International Inc.

The Small Business Development Center, which nominated Soyko for the award, worked with to help the company with a $3.8 million expansion that began in 2019. The company has also benefited from SBA-backed financing.
