2022 National Small Business Week DISTRICT Office Award Nominations

As part of National Small Business Week, the U.S. Small Business Administration takes the opportunity to highlight the impact of outstanding entrepreneurs, small business owners, and community members from all 50 states and U.S. territories.

The nomination deadline for the national awards has closed however, District Office Award nominations are still open.

Supplemental Memorandum in Support of National Small Business Week

To be nominated and receive one of the following local awards, the small business nominee must fit within the category of the award, demonstrate success in business and complete and submit the required nomination package information.

Nomination guidelines for District Office Awards can be found beginning on page 31 of the 2022 Award Nominations Guidelines.

SBA's Lower Rio Grande Valley District Office is currently seeking nominations from the public for exceptional entrepreneurs in the following categories:

  • Young Entrepreneur of the Year
  • Family-Owned Business of the Year
  • Home-Based Business of the Year
  • Minority Owned Small Business of the Year
  • Veteran Owned Small Business of the Year
  • Women Owned Small Business of the Year
  • Rural Owned Small Business of the Year

SBA Form 3315 will be used for all District Office Awards above

All nominees are required to complete SBA Background Form 3300.
For “team” nominations, a background form is required for each team member.

Self nominations are encouraged and accepted.

Deadline for Submission

Friday, February 18, 2022, 5:00 p.m. (CST)

SBA will make the above referenced awards to eligible small businesses at the SBA's Lower Rio Grande Valley District level only.

Young Entrepreneur of the Year
To be considered a young entrepreneur, the individual must serve as a majority owner and operate or bear principal responsibility for operating a small business with a three-year track record, and who will not have reached the age of 30 by June 1, 2022.

Family-Owned Business of the Year
This award honors a family-owned and operated business which has been passed on from one generation to another.  The owner must also serve as a majority owner and operator or bear principal responsibility for operating a small business with at least a 15-year track record.

Home-Based Business of the Year
This award honors an individual who has experienced the rewards and difficulties of owning a home-based business. The business must be completely operated from home.  The owner must also serve as a majority owner and operator or bear principal responsibility for operating a small business.   Must be in business a minimum of three years.

Minority Owned Small Business of the Year
This award honors a minority-owned and operated business. The minority owner must also serve as a majority owner and operator or bear principal responsibility for operating a small business.   Must be in business a minimum of three years.

Veteran Owned Small Business of the Year
This award honors a veteran-owned and operated business. The owner must serve as a majority owner and operator or bear principal responsibility for operating a small business.  Title 38 of the Code of Federal Regulations defines a veteran as “a person who served in the active military, naval, or air service and who was discharged or released under conditions other than dishonorable.”  Must be in business a minimum of three years.

Women Owned Small Business of the Year
This award honors a woman-owned and operated business. The woman owner must serve as a majority owner and operator or bear principal responsibility for operating a small business.  Must be in business a minimum of three years.

Rural Owned Small Business of the Year
This award honors a rural-owned and operated business. The owner must serve as a majority owner and operator or bear principal responsibility for operating a small business. Rural eligibility is determined by business located in an area with less than 50,000 in total population.

All district Small Business Week nominations must be submitted electronically to the U.S. Small Business Administration Lower Rio Grande Valley District's BOX account.

Pease be prepared to upload nominations and in one document if possible.  Additionally, attention to file name is greatly appreciated. Name the file for the award and the person/business being nominated.
