You're Invited!

Join the SBA's Iowa District Office on October 13th as we Recognize Blanca Plascensia with the SBA Impact Award During Hispanic Heritage Month

The SBA Iowa District Office invites you to a special event on Wednesday, October 13th at 4:30 p.m. as we recognize Blanca Plascencia, co-owner of two El Fogon restaurants in West Des Moines and the Cantaritos Grill & Cantina in Pella, in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month.  SBA will present the SBA Impact Award to Blanca at El Fogon’s West Glen location to celebrate her business success, resiliency, and contributions to the Iowa economy.

During Hispanic Heritage Month the SBA celebrates the impact Hispanic entrepreneurs have had on the U.S. economy and commemorates some of the many ways Hispanics have influenced and contributed to American society.

  • Estimated at 4.65 million strong, Hispanic-owned businesses are the fastest-growing segment of the U.S. economy.
  • The number of Hispanic businesses has grown 34% in the last 10 years.
  • Pre-pandemic, Hispanic-owned employer businesses generated nearly $500 billion in annual revenue and employed 3.4 million people.

Join us to celebrate resilience of Iowa small business owners like Blanca Plascencia, a Latina restaurateur who survived the COVID-19 pandemic and expanded with a second West Des Moines location.  Blanca has utilized SBA’s 7(a), Paycheck Protection Program and Restaurant Revitalization Fund programs to finance her business operations since opening her first location in 2014. The SBA encourages continued support of our local small business community during the economic recovery.

WHEN:  Wednesday, October 13, 2021 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.  (award presentation and brief remarks will take place at 4:45 p.m.)

WHERE: El Fogon, 5465 Mills Civic Parkway, Suite 101, West Des Moines, IA  50266
