A new fact sheet from Advocacy shows that, on average, the self-employed are wealthier than the non-self-employed and are significantly wealthier than workers and retirees. However, business equity differs among demographic groups.

EPA Seeks Information on Small Entities Operating Pyrolysis and Gasification Units

The Environmental Protection Agency seeks comments to assist in the development of possible regulations of emissions from pyrolysis and gasification units under the Clean Air Act. The agency is particularly interested in comments from small businesses who would be impacted by the new rule. Comment deadline November 8, 2021.

Fish and Wildlife Service Seeks Feedback on Streamlining Eagle Permit Process in Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking

The Fish and Wildlife Service seeks comments on potential approaches for further expediting and simplifying the permit process authorizing incidental take of eagles. The Service is also interested in specific impacts to small businesses. Comment deadline October 29, 2021.

FCC Seeking Comment on Competitive Broadband Access in Multi-Tenant Environments

The Federal Communications Commission seeks input for a proceeding examining how the FCC can promote increased broadband competition in apartments and office buildings. Comment deadline is October 20. Reply comment deadline is November 4.

Advocacy Submits Comments to DOL on Tip Regulations Under the Fair Labor Standards Act; Partial Withdrawal

On August 20, Advocacy submitted a comment letter to the Department of Labor on a proposed rule to add restrictions to the use of the tip credit under the Fair Labor Standards Act. Advocacy is concerned that the DOL’s certification that the rule will not have a significant economic impact on a substantial number of small entities lacks an adequate factual basis.

Advocacy Submits Comment Letter on Increasing the Minimum Wage for Federal Contractors

On August 27, Advocacy submitted a comment letter to the Department of Labor about increases to the minimum wage for federal contractors. Advocacy is concerned that this proposed rule will result in financial hardship for affected small businesses that are not normally considered government contractors.
