For more than 50 years, the SBA has held National Small Business Week to honor outstanding entrepreneurs and celebrate our nation's small businesses. Small businesses are the heartbeat of our economy! They are creative, spark innovation and generate opportunities for individuals within their community.

During this year's Virtual National Small Business Week SummitSeptember 13-15, 2021, the U.S. Small Business Administration will spotlight the resilience of America's entrepreneurs and the renewal of the small business economy as they build back better from the economic crisis brought on by the pandemic.

SBA recognizes the resilience and ingenuity of all the small business owners who adapted their business model during the pandemic to serve their communities and keep hardworking Americans on payroll, including Tess Cahigas, owner of Seniors 2000 in San Antonio, Texas. Tess personifies patience, flexibility, and resilience. With the help of SBA resources, Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL), and Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) funding, Seniors 2000 was able to pivot, save jobs and continue operating during the pandemic. As a result, Seniors 2000 is no longer surviving a hardship - they are prospering!

Tess says businesses are constantly evolving and learning, even Seniors 2000. “We learn from our mistakes, seek advice, and improve with the help of so many free services offered by the city, community, and the SBA – services like education, mentoring, networking, and more.” Tess coupled the added knowledge with passion, hard work, and goal setting. She offers this advice, “You can overcome challenges, and you and your company will become better as a result. Create a strong foundation with all the resources that are available. Have strong faith in yourself and your future, for every sacrifice has a reward.”

If you are a small business owner, don't miss your chance to REGISTER for this event. SBA, along with valued small business partners, will share important information about the many programs and services available to help businesses start and grow, build resilience and support, retain employees, discover new markets, and join key networks.  The National Small Business Week Virtual Summit will also include representatives from Fortune 500 companies, who will discuss their paths to success and share resources to help businesses on their entrepreneurial journey. Highlights of the summit will include virtual booths to develop one-on-one connections with public and private sector partners to create opportunities for collaboration and information-sharing in real-time.  In addition, small business participants can learn more about new business strategies, meet other business owners, and talk with industry experts.

Small Business Stats:

  • There are over 32.5 million small businesses operating across the United States.
  • Small businesses continue to create 2 out of every 3 net new jobs in the private sector.
  • More than half our workforce either works for or owns a small business.

The SBA is privileged to have helped so many businesses during these trying times. Here’s to a better upcoming year!
