In case you missed it! On July 29, 2021, Vice President Kamala Harris and Administrator Isabel Casillas Guzman joined small business owners from across the country as part of the Getting Back on Track Webinar Series to discuss government resources and tools that are helping small business owners recover from the pandemic and build back better.

The SBA Office of Capital Access will host a webinar series for small business owners to discuss the COVID EIDL (Economic Injury Disaster Loan) program’s small business loans. The COVID EIDL program is a Federal small business loan program designed to support small businesses to recover from the COVID-19 economic recession by providing accessible and borrower-friendly capital.  

The majority of the information in each webinar will be the same. Please also note these events are closed to press.

On July 28, 2021, the SBA launched a streamlined application portal to allow borrowers with Paycheck Protection Program loans of $150,000 or less through participating lenders to apply for forgiveness directly through the SBA.

The federal government has exceeded its small business federal contracting goal, awarding more than $145 billion in federal contract dollars to small businesses, a $13 billion increase from the previous fiscal year.

On July 28, 2021, the SBA announced $300,000 for up to two new grant opportunities for established and aspiring Women’s Business Center host organizations. When funded, the WBC’s will provide business services for women entrepreneurs in Puerto Rico.

On July 27, 2021, the SBA announced that the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant program has awarded over $7.5 billion in total funding to more than 10,000 live venues and related businesses across America and U.S. territories.

The SVOG portal remains open and funding is still available for all eligible applicants. However, do not wait. Submit your application as soon as possible.

Join the SBA and Public Private Strategies Institute for a webinar on August 5, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. EDT to help you get your business back on track. During the webinar, you will:

New, Lower Costs on Marketplace Health Insurance Plans

You may be eligible for more savings and lower costs on health coverage through the Health
Insurance Marketplace due to the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.

What’s new:

  • More people than ever before qualify for tax credits that lower the cost of health coverage, even those who weren’t eligible in the past.
  • Most people currently enrolled in a Marketplace plan will qualify for more tax credits.
  • Health insurance premiums after these new savings will go down.
  • 4 out of 5 customers can find a plan for $10 or less per month.

Fill out and submit your application on (or for Spanish speakers) by August 15, 2021. After you submit your application, you have 30 days to enroll in a plan. Coverage starts the first day of the month after you enroll.

Get Inspired: Small Business Success Story

In 2013, Chera Amlag and her husband Geo Quibuyen started a passion project, monthly Filipino pop-up dinners, where they could share their Filipino culture through food. Drawing inspiration from her first memories of cooking a Filipino dessert Halaya with her mother, Amlag combined her love of Ube, a purple yam, and cheesecake to create Ube Cheesecake, which people started requesting long after its debut during their second pop-up.
