Finance and Equity; Insights from the PPP on how tech might help better serve BIPOC owners and community

SBA Administrator Speaking on Finance & Equity

July 22, 11-12:30 p.m.

SBA Administrator Isabella Guzman will be the keynote speaker at an event this week hosted by the Federal Reserve Bank, AARP and Reimagine Main Street, which is a project of the Public Private Strategies Institute.

The event will cover how technology might better serve business owners of color and their communities, including what lessons can be drawn from the Paycheck Protection Program to advance more equitable lending to Black, Hispanic, and older small business owners.

SBA Reconvenes the Council on Underserved Communities

The SBA is reconvening the Council on Underserved Communities under the authority of the Federal Advisory Committee Act, which will help support the our prioritization of equity across its programs and initiatives.

The Council will consist of 20 diverse stakeholders from every region of the country tasked with advising the SBA on strengthening and improving its strategies to help underserved communities. 

We are soliciting nominations from members from the public with a deadline of Tuesday, July 20, 2021. The requirements for nominations include:

  • Must be representative of the interests of urban or rural underserved communities;
  • Former or current small business owner;
  • Community leader;
  • Official from a small business trade association or academic institution.

Funding Available for Export Development

Exporting basics

SBA's STEP program provides financial awards to state and territory governments to assist small businesses with export development.

The Minnesota Trade Office, a recipient of these funds, is soliciting applications for funding for eligible Minnesota-based small businesses to participate in export development activities that will assist the company to begin exporting or increase their exports from Minnesota.

Applications will be evaluated on a competitive basis as they are received. Proposals must be submitted electronically to Jackie Geiger.
