The restaurant industry has been among the hardest-hit sectors during the economic downturn caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. To help bring jobs back and revive the industry, the American Rescue Plan, signed into law by President Joe Biden, established the $28.6 billion Restaurant Revitalization Fund at the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). The SBA will administer the funds to the hardest-hit small restaurants. Message from the District Director

J. Malcolm Richards, North Florida District Office

DD Richards

The SBA North Florida team continues to work with our community and resource partners to ensure our small businesses are aware of the resources available to them to recover from the impacts of Covid-19. Additionally, we are also helping businesses start and grow as well by providing training and outreach. We provide support to various underserved markets by partnering with chambers and other groups in the community.

This month the office hosted one of our Boots to Business training programs, designed to help active-duty service members, veterans, and spouses learn about entrepreneurship. We offered this virtually and in partnership with the Florida Veterans Business Outreach Center. If you missed this training, we have a few more of these opportunities scheduled for this fiscal year.

Visit the North Florida District Website to learn about all our upcoming training opportunities. Learn about all the resources available to you through the SBA at SBA.gov. Visit SBA.gov/coronavirus for information on how the the SBA can help your business recover from the effects of Covid-19. 8(a) Business Development Program

Last Fiscal Year, the NFDO Business Development Team supported nearly a BILLION dollars in federal contracts for small and disadvantaged firms in North Florida. These firms are small and disadvantaged businesses selling their products and services to federal government. These businesses have one very important thing in common; they have been certified through SBA as part of the 8(a) Business Development Program.

Did you know?

The federal government's goal is to award at least 5 percent of all federal contracting dollars to small disadvantaged businesses each year.

Disadvantaged businesses in the 8(a) program can:

  • Compete for set-aside and sole-source contracts in the program
  • Get a Business Opportunity Specialist to help navigate federal contracting
  • Form joint ventures with established businesses through the SBA's Mentor-Protégé Program
  • Receive management and technical assistance, including business training, counseling, marketing assistance, and high-level executive development
