Shuttered Venue Operators Grant Program


Program details

The Shuttered Venue Operators (SVO) Grant program was established by the Economic Aid to Hard-Hit Small Businesses, Nonprofits, and Venues Act, signed into law on December 27, 2020. The program includes $15 billion in grants to shuttered venues, to be administered by the SBA’s Office of Disaster Assistance.

Eligible applicants may qualify for SVO Grants equal to 45% of their gross earned revenue, with the maximum amount available for a single grant award of $10 million. $2 billion is reserved for eligible applications with up to 50 full-time employees.

SBA Lending Update: 7A Loan Program Enhancements

SBA announced enhancements to the 7a loan program effective 12/27 through 10/1/21 that gives lenders additional incentive to lend -- helping small businesses access capital and save money:

  • No fees to borrowers or lenders
  • Guarantee from SBA to lenders raised to 90%
  • Guarantees on the Express loan program under $350,000 raised from 50% to 75%
  • Express loan limit increased to $1 million through October
    and on our 504 program through 9/30
  • No Third Party Lender fee or CDC Processing fee

Nationwide there have been 400,580 approvals for $35,017,654,071 with a total of 4,526 lenders participating.

In MA, there have been 10,578 approvals for $1,031,477,972.     

MA represents 2.6% of total approvals by # and by $’s we are at 2.9% of total funds allocated for this round.

The SBA’s Emerging Leaders provides free entrepreneurship education and training for executives of small businesses that are potential job creators. This intensive executive entrepreneurship series includes nearly 100 hours of classroom time. Emerging Leaders provides participants with the opportunity to work with a network of experienced coaches and mentors, attend specialized workshops, and develop connections with their peers, city leaders, and the financial community. HUD Section 3

What is Section 3?
Section 3 requires that recipients of certain HUD financial assistance, to the greatest extent possible, provide training, employment, contracting and other economic opportunities to low- and very low-income persons, especially recipients of government assistance for housing, and to businesses that provide economic opportunities to low- and very low-income persons.

For Residents – If you receive HUD financial assistance or meet the criteria for low- or very low-income for your community, you are eligible for work under Section 3. Log onto the Section 3 Opportunity Portal to create an account. Once you have an account you can upload your profile and employment history. You may also search for job opportunities through the Section 3 Opportunity Portal.

For Employers – If your business qualifies as a Section 3 business concern, you may self-certify for addition to the Business Registry. The Business Registry allows recipients of HUD funds to identify potential businesses to award HUD-funded contracts. For more information please visit the Section 3 Opportunity Portal.

Profitability is a primary measure of a business’s ultimate success and longevity, this module explores growth opportunities that focus on sales and profitability. Sales increases come from expansions in markets served, target customers reached, products and services offered, and other business expanding methods. In Module 1, you began your analysis by evaluating your current business situation, clarifying your three-year vision, and setting goals to achieve it. This module will help you evaluate growth indicators that show your business’s readiness for growth. In addition, you will assess the industry’s own potential for growth and identify and screen opportunities for your business.

The presenter will be Keith Alex Greenaway, JD and Managing Director of MBE Advisory Services at the Greater New England Minority Supplier Development Council.

U.S. Small Business Administration offers the 7(j) Management and Technical Assistance Program for eligible Small Businesses.

7(j) training, provided to eligible firms and their employees, includes very specialized training in the areas of federal contracting. The training will be provided in an online format with live instructors and the ability for students to participate and ask questions. Up to 40 participants per workshop will receive training on how to make "real world" business decisions that will facilitate their firm's success.
