Small Business Saturday 2020

Kansas City District Director Jon Malcolm Richards Encourages     Shopping Local on November 28

Small Business Saturday, November 28, 2020

Small Business Saturday 2020 will be held on November 28th—a day to celebrate and support small businesses and all they do for their communities.  This year, we know that small businesses need our support now more than ever as they navigate, retool and pivot from the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

The holiday might look a little different this year; however, we can still share joy by shopping small and supporting our favorite small businesses and their employees all holiday season long.

Last year, shoppers came together in full-force to support their local communities, and Small Business Saturday hit a record high with an estimated $19.6 billion in reported spending.

Founded by American Express in 2010 and officially cosponsored by SBA since 2011, Small Business Saturday has become an important part of small businesses’ busiest shopping season.

Small businesses are the engine of our national economy.  Today, there are 31.7 million small businesses in the United States.  About half of all the American workers are either employed by a small business or own a small business.  These businesses create two out of three new private-sector jobs in America, helping to spur economic growth in communities across our country and add strength to our nation.

It is more critical now than ever before to support small businesses in every aspect.  Shop early and shop often.  Shop as big as you can!  Many small retail shops have pivoted to online marketplaces with SBA assistance.  Look for them.  I encourage you to make sure you are supporting the return of our small businesses and the health of our communities.

Please join the Kansas City District Office and organizations across the country in supporting your local small businesses by shopping at a small business.  To find participating small businesses in your area go to:  Small Business Saturday.

Whether you are planning on starting a business or growing an existing one, your local U.S. Small Business Administration can help. As an independent federal agency supporting the voice of the small business communities, we can help you with quality small business training and counseling, funding, government contracting, small business certification, surety bonds, international trade, and low interest federal disaster loans.
