Omaha – Rakesh Srivastava, owner and founder of Innovative Prosthetics & Orthotics, has been named the 2020 Nebraska Small Business Person of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration. He will be presented the award at a local ceremony on Friday, Sep 25th at his Hastings, NE clinic. SBA Regional Administrator Tom Salisbury, Region VII Kansas City, and SBA Nebraska District Director Leon Milobar will present the award.

WHY:  The SBA Nebraska Small Business Person of the Year Award is given to the owner of a local business who has demonstrated staying power, job growth, sales and profit increases over three years, serves the community and has overcome adversity. Srivastava also suffered recent financial distress due to COVID-19 but was able to bridge his cash gap after receiving an SBA Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan. A prosthetics user himself, Srivastava began his career in a rehabilitation center in New Delhi, India. He relocated to the U.S. in the 1990s, opening his first clinic in Hastings in 2006 after graduate school from the University of Nebraska at Kearney. He operates clinics in Grand Island, Kearney, and Omaha besides being on a research team at the University of Nebraska at Omaha on the Cyborg Beast program. The program hopes to develop an affordable and innovative prosthetic hand with new forward-thinking 3D printing technology.
