Federal Government Exceeds Small Business Contracting Goals by Awarding Record-Breaking $132.9 Billion to Small Businesses

WASHINGTON – August 12, 2020, the U.S. Small Business Administration announced that the federal government exceeded its small business federal contracting goal, awarding 26.50 percent or $132.9 billion in federal contract dollars to small businesses, over $12 billion increase from the previous fiscal year.  Additionally, the Fiscal Year 2019 Small Business Federal Procurement Scorecard marks the second time in Scorecard history that the women-owned small business contracting goal of 5% has been met*.

 

The federal government also added a record-breaking one million jobs to the American economy with $132.9 billion in prime contract dollars awarded to small businesses and $90.7 billion in subcontracts awarded.  Overall, the federal government earned an “A” on this year’s government-wide Scorecard.

Making Provision through the 8(a) Business Development Program 

In honor of Black Business Month, we celebrate Nicholas Dowdell owner of Provision Contracting Services, LLC!

Nicholas Dowdell, a disabled Army veteran, had a desire to do something impactful in his community as well as become his own boss. He started out as an employee of a prominent construction company through which he gained invaluable experience that would afford him the technical knowledge and expertise he would later need. After a few years working in the capacity of a project manager, he decided to turn his dream of entrepreneurship into a reality and he started Provision Contracting Services, Inc in 2010. As a startup business, Nicholas Dowdell and Provision faced many challenges. They lacked sufficient past performance to successfully win contracts and were turned down for several opportunities.
