South Florida District Office  - June 2020

DD Headshot

Dear Small Business Owners,

I would like to congratulate and honor you for all the hard work you’ve done in maintaining your business throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. I know it has been quite challenging. I am in awe of how strong and resilient our nation's small businesses are especially during times of disaster. Studies have shown that those who prepare are more likely to rebound after a natural disaster.

The 2020 Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 - November 30; now is the time to prepare your business. Of course, many business owners are focused on getting through the pandemic. Nevertheless, I encourage you to check out the  various resources at www.Ready.gov that can help you "Plan Ahead" for Disasters.

I also invite you to join us for our disaster preparedness webinars that will be held in English and Spanish and will include time for question and answer sessions. Click here to view our calendar of events and register for upcoming webinars.

Wishing you a safe and uneventful hurricane season!

8(a) Business Development Program

As we approach the 4th quarter of fiscal year 2020, the federal government is still buying goods and services and the 8(a) Business Development Division is still providing quality service to the portfolio of 156 firms. In addition to accepting 8(a) contract offers for them, we are also providing information on the contracting flexibilities now available because of COVID-19 and helping them with SBA's disaster assistance programs.

We welcomed 12 new 8(a) firms this fiscal year and their orientation is planned for Wednesday, July 8 from 9am – 1pm.  If you're interested in becoming an 8(a) firm, please click here for more information.
