Today District Director Bob Nelson visited The Capital Network, a recipient of the $50K Growth Accelerator Fund Competition.  TCN Executive Director Marie Meslin and Program Manager JingJing Li Cohen below are utilizing the funds to expand their Female Founders Fellow program, which engages a cohort of female founders building early-stage companies with the education and network critical to raising seed capital.


District Director Bob Nelson visited top SBA microlender and community advantage lender, ACCION Serving the East Coast – to present the Lender of the Quarter for the 3rd Quarter recognition to their staff.  Accion made 14 microloans during the third quarter which represents a 175% increase from the previous quarter. Springfield Branch Manager Oreste  Varela (left) along with Massachusetts Small Business Development Center, Berkshire Regional Office Director Keith Girouard went on a radio program in Pittsfield, WBRK (1340 AM) and discussed outreach to underserved entrepreneurs and the Latino community in preparation for an event on Thursday celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month.


The MA District Office held a quarterly economic round table session with economic development partners in the City of Chelsea.   Joining were visitors from the U.S. Census Bureau, Chuck Brady and Angelo Bonaccorsy of the Outreach and Promotion Branch, Economic Management Division giving a presentation about the Economic Survey and Census Business Builder tool.  Over 20 small business advocates and friends participated, sharing updates and opportunities for collaboration, including: Amplify Latinx, Hispanic American Institute, Initiative for a Competitive Inner City, Mass Development, Boston Chamber of Commerce, Mass Office of Business Development, Lawyer’s Committee for Civil Rights, and more.


Lead Lender Relations Specialist Ili Spahiu led an outreach and education workshop about SBA programs and services with new partner, Better Business Bureau of Central New England.
