Hispanic Business Association (HBA)

Small Business Forum

The Hispanic Business Association (HBA) along with South Carolina Department of Commerce and Charleston LDC will host a small business forum designed to help small business owners explore various resources available across the state. Whether you are thinking about starting a business or have an existing company, there will be information shared to benefit everyone.

Topics will include business development resources, state and federal contracting opportunities and access to capital. Please RSVP no later than August 30th. Featuring panelists from SC Dept. of Commerce, Charleston LDC, SBA, the Charleston Small Business Development Center, SC Dept. of Transportation, and SC Small and Minority Business Contracting and Certification.

7j Federal Contracting Readiness Classes

SBA 7j provider Ruffin Consulting, in partnership with the Benedict College Business Development Center will be on hand on September 19th to provide two training sessions on Federal Contracting. We welcome all SBA 8(a) firms and other small businesses who are currently, or are interested in, doing business with the Federal Government.

Who can participate? Small business owners who are: Socially and/or economically disadvantaged, 8(a) certified, HUBZone certified, or operating a business in high unemployment or low-income areas.

September is National Preparedness Month. The U.S. Small Business Administration  has partnered with the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety  to help organizations become more aware of their risks in the event of a disaster while also helping them develop business continuity plans to support rebuilding and recovery of operations.  Advance preparation is key to protecting your assets and reopening your business as quickly as possible.

  • On Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 3 p.m. EDT, SBA and IBHS will co-host a Twitter chat “How to Prepare Your Business Before Disaster Strikes.”  Follow along with hashtag #SBAchat.
  • On Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 2 p.m. EDT, SBA and IBHS will co-host a webinar focused on fortifying your property against natural hazards. Register for the webinar here.

The National Preparedness Month 2019 theme is “Prepared, Not Scared.” This effort, led by FEMA and sponsored by the Ready Campaign, is aimed at increasing public awareness of the importance of disaster preparedness.  It’s never too early to take steps to get prepared to protect your property, your team and your community.
