SBA Kansas City District Office Celebrating 7 Billion Dollars in Approved SBA Loans. Join us!

On August 29, 2019 a celebration will be held at the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame, at 3861 East Stan Musial Drive, Springfield MO 65809 from 10:30 am until 12:00 pm. U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) is celebrating $7 Billion Dollars of approved loans for Kansas City District Office (KCDO). KCDO opened in 1953 and the new SBA staff approved the first loan on January 7, 1954. Our $7 Billionth dollar of financing was provided to Ridge Road Farms of Neosho MO, who raise puppies for retail sale.  Guaranty Bank of Springfield made the deal happen.

The first borrower at KCDO was Rowley Grain Company of Rowley IA, a rural grain elevator which continues under another name today. That first Kansas City loan was for $66,000 and it was paid in full.  There were 94 more loans approved by the Kansas City staff that year. KCDO was the only office for all of region 7 (Missouri, Kansas, Iowa and Nebraska) until 1960 when other district offices were opened in Des Moines and Omaha, St Louis and Wichita.  Area lenders have made a total of 40,517 SBA loans since 1954 and over $7 Billion in approvals.

The SBA, under its 7(a) Loan Guaranty Program, can guarantee loans up to $5 million for small businesses. Loans are available for most business purposes, such as to purchase commercial real estate, equipment, and inventory as well as for short-term working capital. The interest rate normally will not exceed 2.75 over the prime lending rate. Maturities range from 1 year to 25 years based on the use of proceeds.

All SBA programs and services are extended to the public on a nondiscriminatory basis. Reasonable arrangements for persons with disabilities will be made if requested at least two weeks in advance. Contact: Mike McWhorter at or 816-426-4916.
