Government Contracting

 

There has never been a better time for you to do business with the federal government, the world's biggest purchaser of goods and services. If you are exploring opportunities that exist for your business or have just started selling to federal agencies, you will want to attend this complimentary workshop.

 

SBA will provide information on how to make your way through the procurement processes and compete effectively for federal, state, and California High Speed Rail contracting opportunities. Also, there will be an overview of SBA's various contracting programs including the 8(a) and HUB Zone programs, along with contracting information for minority-owned, women-owned, and veteran-owned businesses.

The first step of entrepreneurship is to participate in the VBOC orientation. This extensive training will provide you with step-by-step instructions to register for the complementary small business consulting, training, and mentoring services.

 

Moreover, you will learn the necessary requirements for accessing the complimentary services so you can discover how to utilize them to your advantage. Completing the registration leads to accessing the extensive small business training, networking opportunities, and mentoring services to guide you in the processes of starting, sustaining, or expanding a small business.

CVE Certification

 

Learn the step-by-step process to be certified through the Center for Verification and Evaluation (CVE) to verify Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Businesses (SDVOSBs) and Veteran-Owned Small Businesses (VOSBs). SDVOSBs and VOSBs who want to participate in the VA’s Veterans First Contracting Program must be verified by CVE in order to be eligible for VA contract set-asides.

Boots To Business: Reboot

 

This is a one-day training with the option of a follow-on 8-week online course for graduates.

 

Boots to Business: Reboot, will introduce veterans to the fundamentals of business ownership, and lead participants through the key steps for evaluating business concepts and developing a business plan. The program will also introduce participating veterans to a network of lifetime business support available across the U.S. by introducing them to SBA’s network of Veteran Business Outreach Centers, Women’s Business Centers, Small Business Development Centers, and SCORE Counselors.

 

Boots to Business: Reboot adapts the curriculum from the SBA-sponsored Boots to Business: From Service to Startup, a worldwide program offered as a component of the Department of Defense’s redesigned Transition Assistance Program (TAP) renamed Transition GPS. SBA currently provides Boots to Business: From Service to Startup for transitioning military members and their spouses.

 

After completing Boots to Business: Reboot, participants will have the tools and knowledge they need to identify a business opportunity, draft a business plan, connect with local resources and launch their small businesses.

 

This training is designed for veterans of all eras, reservists, National Guard members, transitioning military members and their spouses in their initiative to start a small business or currently in business for two years or less.

The workshop will cover essential concepts for starting and running your business. You’ll learn about your responsibilities regarding books and records, accounting systems and forms of business organization. Learn best practices that small business should use to avoid tax problems. Learn what are business income and deductions, how to file and pay business federal, and much more. This workshop is presented by a tax professional in partnership with IRS. IRS is providing resources for the workshop.
