June 30 is World Social Media Day, the perfect time to examine your small business's social media strategy.

Not sure how important or effective social medial really is? Consider the following statistics on social media usage from a recent SCORE blog:

  • More than two-thirds of adults in the U.S. are on social media - The percentage of adults who use at least one social media site has grown from 11% in 2006 to 69% in 2018.
  • The younger your customers, the more likely they're on social media -
    • Nearly all 18 to 24-year-olds use social media with a usage rate of 94%
    • The 25 to 29 year age range has a 83% usage rate
    • The 30 to 49 year age range is at 80%
    • Even among those 50 and older, 56% use YouTube on a regular basis
  • Social media is good for business - At least 41% of business owners say they depend on social media to drive revenue and 59% of customers think customer service through social media makes it easier for issues to be resolved.
