Four Tips for a Safe Workplace

In honor of National Safety Month, the SBA and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) encourage you to follow these four tips to create a safe workplace for yourself and your employees:

1. Ensure your business meets legal requirements. Employers are responsible for providing a safe and healthful workplace for their employees, review your safety obligations in the OSHA Small Business Handbook.

2. Find the workplace health and safety requirements that apply to you. Follow this step-by-step guide to determine which OSHA requirements apply to your workplace and how you can comply.

3. Take advantage of free training programs. Get the help you need to ensure that you and your employees are prepared to handle safety and health hazards in the workplace. OSHA offers courses, educational programs and training materials.

4. Request an on-site consultation for review. Have you recently completed your workplace safety changes? Now is the time to sign up for a free on-site consultation service. Consultants work with employers to identify workplace hazards, provide advice on compliance with OSHA standards and assist in establishing injury and illness prevention programs.
