Manchester Center Company Recognized for Exporting

MANCHESTER CENTER, Vt. – A local granola manufacturing business is being recognized by the federal government for its global sales.

Small Batch Organics, owned and operated by Lindsay Martin, has been named the 2019 Vermont Exporter of the Year by the Small Business Administration. The company’s largest export markets are Canada, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. According to a 2018 report by the International Trade Administration, Canada is the largest market for Vermont exports, followed by Hong Kong.

VT Small Business Profile Released

The Office of Advocacy released the Vermont Small Business Profile, a detailed report about the state’s small business economy.  

Vermont small businesses employ 161,080 workers, 61 percent of the state’s workforce. Vermont small businesses have hired approximately 3,000 new employees since 2018.

The unemployment rate in Vermont dropped from 2.9 percent in January 2018 to 2.4 percent in February 2019. The national unemployment rate average is 3.9 percent.

The report also shows Vermont has 77,614 small businesses.

The Office of Advocacy is an independent office within the SBA. Each year the office releases small business profiles for each state and territory. Vermont’s report includes information about the number of firms, employment, demographics and other statistics using the most recently available government data.
