SBA Houston Honors Top Small Businesses
Winners to be formally recognized in Houston, Texas on May 8th
HOUSTON – The best small business owners are being honored as the U.S. Small Business Administration’s (SBA) elite during the 2019 annual awards recognition. SBA Houston District Director Tim Jeffcoat proudly announced this week that Christi and Ragan Bond of Independence Coffee LLC, are the top small business in the Houston District.
“We are very proud of this selection as they represent rural Texas and the American Dream. They rose above many urban competitors with their desire to succeed and entrepreneurial spirit. I look forward to honoring their achievement publicly during the Small Business Awards Luncheon on May 8, 2019,” said SBA District Director Tim Jeffcoat.
This year there were 48 nominees in nine categories. The Small Business Person of the Year and 8(a) Graduate of the Year went on to the SBA Region 6 competition and were selected all state for Texas. SBA Region 6 includes six districts in Texas along with Arkansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and New Mexico.
Each year since 1963, the president has issued a proclamation calling for the celebration of a National Small Business Week. “Entrepreneurs are the innovators who take risks on ideas, invest in their communities, and create jobs. Their skills and creativity not only support their own families, but they also make our neighborhoods and cities vibrant places to live and work, fueling our overall economic strength. These small business owners best represent the nation’s 30 million small businesses and I look forward to welcoming the winners to Washington, D.C. in May when they are officially honored for their accomplishments,” said Administrator Linda McMahon, head of the SBA.
National Small Business Week is set as the first week in May, and this year the dates are May 5 – May 11, 2019. The Houston Small Business Awards Luncheon, sponsored by SCORE Houston, will be held at the Westin Galleria on May 8, 2019. The event will kick off at 9 a.m. with a workshop before the luncheon. SBA Administrator, Linda McMahon, will visit from Washington, D.C. for a special appearance at the awards event. The emcee of the ceremony will be Bob Charlet, the president of the Houston Business Journal. The keynote speaker will be Scott McLelland, the Chairman of the Greater Houston Partnership and president of H-E-B.
