In honor of Women's History Month, the Massachusetts District Office is collaborating with our Women's Business Center, CWE to host two events in Worcester and Boston.  Please join us for networking opportunities and conversation about women entrepreneurship.

NU Borders was formed by a group of former employees from the Department of Homeland Security’s investigative arm. DHS is a truly diverse investigative entity, with multiple mission areas and mandates that protect the nation at its borders.

Prior to founding NU Borders, Thariq was the Lead Data Architect at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). He has run the Data Architecture arm at ICE Office of the Chief Information Officer, with oversight over all IT systems in a $400 million portfolio, and helped set up ICE’s first Data Management Office. Thariq led an effort to restructure the data architecture and data management component for ICE’s major transactional systems and was the primary author of ICE’s Reference Data Architecture Guideline.  >>Read more

Past Events

Economic Development Specialist Norman Eng participated in the 4th Annual Multicultural Business Forum hosted by the Metro South Chamber of Commerce in Brockton.  In the picture below is retired EDS Donna O’Conner serving as a SCORE Mentor in the South Coast MA region.  Mayor of Brockton Carpenter joined the event, which included a Women Minority Owned Business Panel.


On Saturday, March 9th at Dean College, MA District Director Bob Nelson participated in the 2019 VETRN graduation – a program similar to SBA Emerging Leaders, focused on growing veteran-owned businesses.  Growth and action plans were presented by 11 veteran entrepreneurs followed by a graduation ceremony.


On Friday, March 8th MA District Director Bob Nelson was with Sherriff Jerome McDermott at the Norfolk County Correctional Center to explore collaboration by providing SBA program overviews quarterly.    Sherriff McDermott is working on reactivating the facility’s entrepreneurship education program.

On Thursday, March 7th MA Lender Relations Specialist Dan Martiniello served as the moderator for a Small Business Finance Panel at the Harvard Ed Portal.  The event was focused all about SBA loan programs and lenders represented included: Massachusetts Growth Capital Corporation, Eastern Bank, ACCION, Boston Planning & Development Agency, and Boston Impact Initiative Fund.

In commemoration of Black History Month, the Massachusetts District Office led an Economic Development Round Table Meeting, cohosted by the Center for Women & Enterprise.  The keynote speaker was Segun Idowu, Executive Director of the Black Economic Council of Massachusetts – partners, stakeholders and friends from the Greater Boston region participating included: City of Boston, City of Quincy, Interise, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, Salem State University SBDC, MassPort, and more.  Our goal is to continue regular meetings to increase collaboration among stakeholders!
