Emerging Leaders Returns to Worcester!

The SBA Emerging Leaders Initiative is a federal training initiative that focuses on executives of businesses poised for growth in historically challenged communities. The initiative provides participants with the organizational framework, resource network, and motivation required to build sustainable businesses and promote economic development within urban communities. 

The Emerging Leaders Initiative has aided over 4,000 small business owners in sustaining and growing their businesses.  Over the course of seven months, participants are given the opportunity to work with experienced mentors, attend specialized workshops and develop connections with their peers, city leaders, and the financial community.

This training is for established business owners and is not for start-ups or people who are thinking about starting a business.  Eligibility and requirements include:

  • Have annual revenues of at least $250,000
  • Have been in business for at least 3 years
  • Have at least one employee, other than self

The program is free of charge and will run from April 2019 to October 2019.  Interested small business owners may register their interest by applying online by Friday, March 8th at: www.interise.org/sbaemergingleaders

This event will walk participants through the entrepreneurial journey, allowing them to reflect on where they are in the process, and identify the tasks ahead. There will be a panel of successful entrepreneurs who will share their stories, led by Nadine Boone who is the Lead Business Development Specialist for the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Participants will also have the opportunity to network with fellow entrepreneur participants over lunch, while learning about how services like Microsoft 365 (M365), Office 365 Business Premium (O365BP), can support their business.

Thursday, February 14th - Regional Administrator Wendell Davis and MA District Director Bob Nelson joined Worcester Chamber president Tim Murray of the Chamber Exchange TV program to talk SBA program and our mission and to plug recruitment for the SBA Emerging Leaders program which will be in Worcester, MA for the second year.

Friday, December 14th the Massachusetts District Office held a Business to Business Reverse Matchmaker event at the Tip O’Neill Federal Building in Boston led by Nadine Boone, Lead Business Opportunity Specialist.  Over 60 attendees participated in the event and gave pitches to prime contractors and other government agencies.
