Small Business Saturday is November twenty-fourth.

Small Business Saturday is Nov. 24

This year marks the ninth Small Business Saturday, an annual celebration of America’s small business community. Last year, an estimated 108 million consumers nationwide “shopped small” on Small Business Saturday.

Last week SBA Seattle District Director Kerrie Hurd and Edmonds Mayor Dave Earling hit the streets of downtown Edmonds, Washington for a Small Business Saturday preview tour to see what local businesses have in store for their patrons this Saturday.

They kicked off the preview tour with a visit to Teri's Toybox, a well-known Edmonds establishment. Teri's Toybox Owner Teri Soelter got her start in part thanks to an SBA loan.

From there, they went on to visit Little Bipsy Owner Brittani Straub. This is her first time hosting a #ShopSmall event. On Nov. 24, she'll partner with a local coffee shop to offer free espresso with each purchase.

Wooden Spoon Visit

Up next was a stop by Wooden Spoon to meet with Owner Jenny Shore.

"These merchants pay taxes right here in the community, provide local jobs ranging from summer work for youth to part-time work for seniors, and generously support community events and causes," said Hurd on the importance of shopping small.

Mayor Earling noted that one of the keys to the community's success in promoting Edmonds as a destination is to have successful small businesses.

The Edmonds preview tour also took them to Ken Bellingham's Edmonds bakery. Bellingham said he's ready to feed hungry shoppers on Nov. 24.

Today, there are more than 30 million small businesses in the United States. About half of all American workers are either employed by a small business or own a small business and two out of three new jobs are created by small business. How will you spend Small Business Saturday?
