Fresno SBA District Office Offering Next Round of ‘8a Thursdays’

The U.S. Small Business Administration’s Fresno District Office announces the next round of “8a Thursdays,” a local initiative to train 50 small, disadvantaged San Joaquin Valley businesses to become 8a certified.  The Fresno District Office will provide four weeks of intensive Thursday afternoon classes in June to give small business owners the technical assistance they need to prepare successful 8a applications.

“The SBA’s 8a designation is a nine year business development program for small socially and economically disadvantaged companies,” said SBA District Director Dawn Golik.   “Last year, 8a certified firms in the Fresno SBA’s 15 County District were awarded over $100 million in Federal contracts. We’re recruiting for the next round of ‘8a Thursdays’ to help more firms in the San Joaquin Valley successfully apply for this valuable program.”

The next round of SBA’s 8a Thursdays will kick off on Thursday, June 7th at 1:30 pm with the first 90 minute class, “8a Expectations: An Overview of the program and Eligibility Requirements” at the Fresno SBA District Office located at 801 R Street in Downtown Fresno. The initiative will include three other 90 minute classes:  Thursday, June 14th “Introduction to Federal Contracting”; Thursday, June 21st, “Winning Contracts”; and Thursday June 28th “Business Planning & Operational Management.”

All classes are free, and will be held at the SBA’s downtown Fresno Office.  The program will be taught by SBA’s 8a experts, and guest speakers will include local business owners who have used 8a certification to grow their companies. Business owners can visit Fresno SBA’s website to register for one of the 50 slots in this program:
