Wednesday, November 29th – The Massachusetts District Office and the SBA Office of Advocacy hosted the Regional Regulatory Roundtable at the Tip O’Neill Federal Building in Boston. Over 30 small businesses and stakeholder participants joined to share input on the burdens and barriers to small business growth for consideration of reform or elimination.  In the picture is New England Regional Administrator (A), Mark Hayward facilitating the discussion along with the Office of Advocacy team including: Claudia Rogers, Senior Counsel;  Charles Maresca, Director of Interagency Affairs; and Jason Dore, Assistant Chief Counsel for External Affairs & Director of Information.   The first speaker, Robert O’Koniewski,  Esq., Executive Vice President and General Counsel for the Massachusetts State Automobile Dealers Association raised the issue of excessive fees, OSHA reporting and other compliance costs associated with owning a local auto dealership, which can average $250,000 annually each business.

Monday, November 20th – the Massachusetts District Office visited nationally acclaimed Tree House Brewing Co. to raise awareness about the importance of Small Business Saturday and the #SHOPSMALL movement.  Tree House Brewing Co. is bringing manufacturing back to central Massachusetts – exploding in growth and expanding its operations supported by SBA loan programs.  The destination brewery’s only distribution channel is through their retail location in Charlton, Massachusetts – attracting beer-loving cult followers from all over the world, waiting in long lines, to be able to purchase a daily allotment of the limited supply.  Local officials, chamber representatives and the SBA gathered to receive a tour of the new location which opened in July 2017.  Worcester News Channel 3 covered the story and interviewed Mark Hayward, Regional Administrator (A), Anne Gobi, State Senator along with Dean Rohan, Tree House Brewing Co.
