SBA Launches New HUBZONE Maps and Partners with U.S. Digital Service to Streamline and Enhance Online Services for Small Businesses

SBA's HUBZone map has a fresh new look. Check it out at www.sba.gov/hubzone-map

SBA is pleased to announce a brand new version of the Historically Underutilized Business Zones (HUBZone) map at www.sba.gov/hubzone-maps.  The HUBZone map is the first step in the HUBZone modernization effort, which is part of an ambitious transformation of all of SBA’s federal contracting programs.  The map helps small businesses in urban and rural communities understand if they qualify for preferential access to contracts.  It features the latest HUBZone designations, including Qualified Disaster Areas, as well as new features to improve usability and aid in HUBZone address assertions. The HUBZone team will go over the new map functionality during its office hours.  HUBZone office hours are every Tuesday and Thursday, from 2-3pm ET, via this toll free number: 1-888-858-2144, access code 5540055#

Regional Administrator Michael Vallante of the U.S. Small Business Administration announced today that SBA has approved more than $10 million in federal disaster loans for California businesses and residents impacted by severe storms and flooding that occurred Feb. 1-25, 2017. According to Vallante, SBA has approved $4,738,800 for businesses and $5,283,300 for residents to help rebuild and recover from this disaster.

“Although the deadline to apply for property damage loans has expired, small businesses and most private nonprofit organizations of any size may continue to apply for an Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) to help meet working capital needs caused by the disaster. Economic injury assistance is available regardless of whether the business or nonprofit organization suffered any property damage,” Vallante said.

IRS Cautions Taxpayers to Watch for Summertime Scams

The Internal Revenue Service recently issued a warning that tax-related scams continue across the nation even though the tax filing season has ended for most taxpayers. People should remain on alert to new and emerging schemes involving the tax system that continue to claim victims.

“We continue to urge people to watch out for new and evolving schemes this summer,” said IRS Commissioner John Koskinen. “Many of these are variations of a theme, involving fictitious tax bills and demands to pay by purchasing and transferring information involving a gift card or iTunes card. Taxpayers can avoid these and other tricky financial scams by taking a few minutes to review the tell-tale signs of these schemes.”
