  • The HHS/Office of Minority Health (OMH) will host a technical assistance webinar for prospective Youth Health Equity Model of Practice (YHEMOP) placement sites to assist with the application process. The webinar will provide an overview of the program, requirements, and next steps in the application process.

  • HHS recognizes December 1 as World AIDS Day with the theme "Saving Lives through Leadership and Partnerships." For further information and resources, including an Event Planning Guide, please see HIV.gov.

  • HHS/Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)Grants to Expand Substance Abuse Treatment Capacity in Adult Treatment Drug Courts and Adult Tribal Healing to Wellness Courts. Eligibility is limited to state, local, and tribal governments.

  • HHS/SAMHSA: Tribal Behavioral Health Grant Program. Eligibility is limited to federally recognized American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) tribes, tribal organizations, urban Indian organizations, or consortia of tribes and tribal organizations.

  • Robert Wood Johnson FoundationLeadership for Better Health: National Program Center (NPC). The NPC oversees all aspects of the Health Policy Research Scholars, a leadership development program for full-time doctoral students from nonclinical, academic disciplines. The NPC program director will provide oversight for the program center.

  • McKnight Endowment Fund for NeuroscienceMcKnight Scholar Awards. Supports young scientists who hold an MD and/or PhD degree, have completed formal postdoctoral training, and demonstrate a commitment to neuroscience.

  • Udall Foundation, in partnership with the Native Nations Institute for Leadership, Management, and Policy: Native American Congressional Internship. Provides AI/AN students with the opportunity to gain practical experience with the federal legislative process in order to understand first-hand the government-to-government relationship between tribes and the federal government.

  • HHS/NIH, National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and Grand Challenges Canada: Call for abstracts for the 10th Anniversary Conference on Global Mental Health Research Without Borders. This conference will showcase cutting-edge science in six research tracks derived from the grand challenges in global mental health: Root causes of mental illness and key targets and times for intervention; prevention of mental illness and the delivery of early interventions; improved treatment quality, value, and effectiveness; integration of mental health services into existing healthcare platforms; implementation of sustainable, evidence-based mental health care, and sustainable research capacity where it is underdeveloped.
    April 8-9, 2019 in Bethesda, MD.

  • HHS/Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health (OASH), in partnership with the Indian Health Service (IHS), the Great Plains Tribal Chairman's Health Board (GPTCHB) and Kauffman & Associates: New report. Adult Immunization Project Assessment Report: American Indian Perceptions of Education Outreach. This report assesses adult and influenza immunization education resources developed by IHS and GPTCHB in their ability to represent American Indian core cultural values and increase American Indian communities' awareness of adult and influenza immunization benefits.   • Urban Indian Health Institute: New report. Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. This report provides a comprehensive snapshot of the missing indigenous women and girls crisis in urban AI/AN communities and the institutional practices that allow them to disappear. Opportunities for Public Comment

  • HHS/Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS): Call for comments on the Hospital Outcome Measurement for Patients with Social Risk Factors methodologies. CMS has developed two approaches to report readmission rates by patient social risk factors. CMS calls for public comments on the two disparity methods currently in development: the Within-Hospital Disparity Method and the Dual/Race Outcome Rate Method.

Clinical Trials

  • HHS/NIH, National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK): Observational study. Early Tracking of Childhood Health Determinants (ETCHED) Study. NIH researchers seek pregnant, AI/AN women age 18 years or older who plan to receive prenatal care at the Phoenix Indian Medical Center (PIMC) and who agree to continue with research study participation (both mother and their offspring) for at least 3 years after delivery. Study to be conducted at PIMC in Phoenix, AZ. Learn more.

  • Emory University, in collaboration with the HHS Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC): Interventional (Clinical Trial) study. Body Compartment Pharmacokinetics of Anti- Retroviral Agents That May be Used for Future HIV Post- Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP2). Researchers seek HIV-negative men who have sex with men, age 18-49 years old, who are not currently taking PrEP or PEP. Study to be conducted at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. Learn more.
