Recap

  • Ended mobilization (and transit) this week and began operations. Focused on sheets in the NW part of the survey area, largely due to weather, with fair amount of weather downtime experienced this week.
  • The Arctic Seal arrived in Dillingham near end of day 31MAY2023. It took fuel, departing personnel left Dillingham, and incoming (first rotation) personnel met the vessel.
  • The Arctic Seal departed Dillingham for the survey area early on 01JUN2023. Initial transit survey didn’t occur due to weather. ASV was not deployed until late on 02JUN2023 due to weather.
  • Survey this week focused initially on H13721. Moved west of the Nushagak Peninsula on 03JUN2023 to focus on areas that would have some protection from approaching southeasterly weather. Surveyed through H13716, H13722, H13717, and then focused on survey in H13718.
  • Surveying in H13718 at end of 03JUN2023.

Looking Forward

  • Expect to be confined to survey areas west of the Nushagak Peninsula for at least the first part of next week due to continued bad weather with easterly to southeasterly winds. Therefore most progress this week will likely be in H13717 and/or H13718.
  • Will work towards H13715 and H13714 when conditions allow.
