Highlights of this edition

  • David Evans and Associates continued acquisition in Calcasieu, LA! 
  • The NOAA Ship Thomas Jefferson got underway from the Port of Cleveland on 03OCT2022 and transited through the Welland Canal to Lake Ontario to conduct survey operations on OPR-W386-TJ-22!

OPR-F364-FH-22 Onslow Bay, NC

Recap
  • NOAA Ship Ferdinand R. Hassler returned to the survey ground after an early departure due to Hurricane Ian.

  • Ship continued survey operations on H13599 and H13601.

Looking Forward

  • Ferdinand R. Hassler will conduct their last week of survey acquisition for the 2022 field season. 
  • Plan to complete bottom samples on sheets H13597, H13599, and H13601. H13601 is nearly complete with just a few remaining holidays to acquire. Plan is to continue survey until scheduled departure from working grounds for Hassler to return to New Castle, NH for the winter.

THOMAS JEFFERSON

OPR-W386-TJ-22 Approaches to Cleveland, OH

Recap
  • The NOAA Ship Thomas Jefferson got underway from the Port of Cleveland on 03OCT2022 and transited through the Welland Canal to Lake Ontario to conduct survey operations on OPR-W386-TJ-22 acquiring on H13672 and H13674.

  • Prior to transiting, the ship completed sheet clean up on H13687 and H13614.

Looking Forward

  • Thomas Jefferson will continue acquiring multibeam on sheets H13672, H13673, and H13674 prior to transiting to Norfolk, VA on 12OCT2022.

Fairweather

OPR-O190-FA-22 West Prince of Wales, Alaska

Recap:

  • NOAA Ship Fairweather conducted UxS operations in Sumner Strait in tandem with data collection on H13668 and H13666.

  • Fairweather will continue UxS operations in Sumner Strait in tandem with data collection on H13668 and H13666. Departing area on 13OCT2022 for Inside Passage transit to Seattle.

RAINIER

  • NOAA Ship Rainier has concluded their field season and is alongside in San Francisco.

  • The EdgeTech 4205 had a failed data pin on the bulkhead connector. Switched to spare EdgeTech 4200 on 08OCT2022 running the same frequency.
  • One partial delay day due to side scan issues.

  • R/V Blake is currently in port on weather delay
  • H13650 Fill and investigations, waiting on vessel to leave anchorage
  • H13649 submerged rig still being worked on and waiting to fill coverage gap

Recap

  • R/V Norseman II, R/V Thunder, WAM-V 22, and the Vessel of Opportunity (VOOP) have been demobilized.
  • JOA Staff completed the removal of the Goodnews Bay, AK tide station on 304OCT2022.
  • Office staff continued processing and reporting.

 OPR-E347-KR-22 Central Chesapeake Bay, MD

Recap

  •  The 30’ vessel R/V Oyster Bay II continued survey operations. Sheet decisions were based on weather conditions. Weather delays were incurred on 02OCT2022 through 05OCT2022.
  • Survey commenced of the R/V Sea Innovator I on Sheet 6 (H13516). Weather delays were incurred on 02OCT2022 through 04OCT2022.
  • The vessel returned to port 07OCT2022 for a one-day crew rotation.
