Looking Forward

  • Ferdinand R. Hassler will be pier side for a week of scheduled maintenance before returning to Onslow Bay working ground on 31AUG2022.

THOMAS JEFFERSON

OPR-W386-TJ-22 Approaches to Cleveland, OH and OPR-W387-TJ-22 Detroit River

  • NOAA Ship Thomas Jefferson conducted survey operations on OPR-W386-TJ-22, acquiring sheets H13608 and H13682.

  • TJ launch 2904 conducted joint survey operations on OPR-W387-TJ-22 with NRT New London as part of the Detroit field party.
  • Thomas Jefferson arrived for its regularly scheduled inport on 24AUG2022.

Looking Forward

  • The ship will be completing mid-season Operational Readiness Training (ORT) and onboarding the autonomous survey vehicle, DriX, prior to getting underway on 31AUG2022.
  • After getting underway, the ship will be doing underway testing and operations with DriX, while conducting survey operations on OPR-W386-TJ-22.

OPR-M328-FA-21 EXPRESS and OPR-O190-FA-22 West Prince of Wales, Alaska

  • NOAA Ship Fairweather continued multibeam sonar acquisition on OPR-M328-FA-21 EXPRESS off the coast of Oregon.
  • NOAA Ship Fairweather transited to Alaska to conduct multibeam sonar acquisition on OPR-O190-FA-22 West Prince of Wales, Alaska.

RAINIER 

OPR-T381-RA-22 Mariana Islands

Recap
  • NOAA Ship Rainier continued ship survey on H13572 (Saipan), H13586 (Anatahan), H13584 (Sarigan - Zealandia Bank).

  • Fishing operations were also conducted this week.
  • The ship pulled into Port in Guam on 26AUG2022.

Looking Forward

  • Rainier will conduct survey operations for four days in Saipan (H13572), Agrihan (H13582), and H13584 (Sarigan - Zealandia Bank) before beginning transit to Hawaii.

OPR-R320-KR-22 Cape Newenham, AK

Recap

  • All vessels have been demobilized.
  • JOA staff completed a staff observation visit to Togiak and Goodnews Bay. Togiak Gauge 2 telemetry was repaired and battery for Gauge 1 was charged. The damage to Goodnews Gauge 3 was investigated and determined to be an issue with the data logger/sensor electronics. A replacement will be shipped.
  • Office staff continued processing and reporting.

  • JOA staff will monitor tide stations remotely and prepare for the gauge removal trip at the end of September.

OPR-Y396-KR-22 Western Lake Michigan, WI

Recap

  • The R/V Substantial collected fill lines in H13636, H13637, H13639, H13640, H13641, H13642, and H13643.
  • The R/V Benthos remained on standby for additional fill as needed.

  • R/V Substantial will continue fill and investigations in H13635 and H13638, and any remaining fill upon detailed review.
  • R/V Benthos will be on standby for additional fill if necessary.

OPR-B315-KR-22 Approaches to Newport, RI

Recap

  • M/V Northstar Challenger continued 24‐hour survey operations in surveys H13657 and H13663, with a port call for refueling.
  • R/V North Cove continued daylight survey operations collecting mainscheme and fills in surveys H13657, H13658, H13659, H13660, and H13661.

Looking Forward

  • Completion of survey operations is anticipated early this week.
  • M/V Northstar Challenger will complete the remaining maincheme coverage and depart, leaving R/V North Cove to complete any outstanding investigations and fills.

OPR-R302-KR-22 Nunivak, AK

Recap

  • The Qualifier 105 (Q105) with ASV C-Worker 5 (ASV) began the week in transit from Bethel to Homer for demobilization.
  • The vessel arrived in Homer late on 23AUG2022. Demobilization took place on 24AUG2022 and finished on 25AUG2022.
  • The remainder of the week was check-in of equipment in Palmer, as well as return of GNSS buoys to JOA.

Looking Forward

  • No additional field operations are planned for this project; only office work remains.
