OPR-R302-KR-22 Nunivak, AK

Recap

  • The week began with the Qualifier 105 (Q105) and C-Worker 5 ASV (ASV) surveying south through H13593 in order to work in H13592. H13592 is exposed to southerly weather, but this week offered a good weather forecast for working there.
  • Early on 7/4 (UTC) the ASV experienced rudder failure. Parts were expedited from L3 Harris’ office in Louisiana, arriving in Bethel 7/7. The ASV was repaired and back to work shortly after arrival of the parts on 7/8. Additional rudder spare parts will join the vessel in Bethel at the next rotation.
  • At end of day 7/9 both vessels were surveying In H13592.

Looking Forward

  • A rotation is scheduled for 7/12 in Bethel. The vessels will begin working their way south through the transit survey area on 7/10. Survey in the transit area is likely to recommence on 7/13.
  • Parts (new batteries and solar panels) were shipped this week to Bethel to address the NUN1 (NW Nunivak) GNSS buoy. These will be installed in transit back to the survey area, and redeployment of the NUN1 buoy will be prioritized this week in order to ensure at least 30 days of continuous data will be logged at that site.
  • Survey will be undertaken where weather allows. The forecast is mixed this week, but additional work off southern Nunivak in H13592 appears likely.
