OPR-R302-KR-22 Nunivak, AK

Recap

  • The week began with the Qualifier 105 (Q105) transiting towards Bethel from northern Nunivak Island for the rotation planned for 6/28. Neither the Q105 nor the C-Worker 5 ASV (ASVwas able to collect data during transit to Bethel due to strong SE weather conditions. The rotation was successfully completed 6/28.
  • Upon return to the Transit survey area (F00847) on 6/29 conditions had improved and both vessels were able to survey through the transit area. The vessels then continued to northern Nunivak Island and surveyed most of the remainder of the week in H13589, and H13590, and H13591 due to weather remaining primarily southerly.
  • The GNSS Tide Buoy off of northern Nunivak Island (NUN1) began to show an issue this week with its charge state as well as its GNSS tracking capabilities. The Q105 pulled the GNSS Tide Buoy on 7/2 while en route to southern Nunivak Island to troubleshoot. The buoy appeared to be physically in good condition. Troubleshooting with JOA’s assistance is ongoing; replacement parts may be need to installed after the next scheduled Bethel rotation (7/12). This would still allow at least 30 days of continuous data to be obtained at the site. NUN2 (NW of Cape Mendenhall) has been operating normally.
  • At end of day 7/2 both vessels were surveying their way south through H13593 in order to work in H13592 as weather conditions appeared to start being favorable for work off of southern Nunivak.
  • There are no additional recommendations for line spacing changes at this time beyond what has previously been communicated.

Looking Forward

  • Work is expected to continue off of southern Nunivak in H13592 this week to take advantage of the current weather conditions allowing substantial survey work there, which to date has not been possible.
