Highlights of this edition

  • NOAA Ship Fairweather conducted hydrographic survey operations for OPR-M328-FA-21 EXPRESS.
  • TerraSond's Qualifier 105 (Q105) and C-Worker 5 ASV (ASV) completed mobilization and prepares to commence survey operations for OPR-R302-KR-22 Nunivak, AK.

OPR-J350-FH-22 Northern Gulf of Mexico

  • NOAA Ship Ferdinand R. Hassler continued survey operations on OPR-J350-FH-22 with focus on sheets H13623, H13624, H13625, H13626, H13627, H13629, and H13630.

  • Arrived at NOAA GMSF, Pascagoula, MS port on 10JUN2022.

Looking Forward

  • NOAA Ship Ferdinand R. Hassler will return to project working grounds to survey sheets H13625, H13627, and H13628 expansion areas.
  • Ship plans to depart the working grounds in the morning of 16JUN2022 and commence transit to Port Canaveral, FL.

OPR-W386-TJ-22 Approaches to Cleveland, OH

  • NOAA Ship Thomas Jefferson got underway from Cleveland, OH on 06JUN2022 and transited west to the Lake Erie Islands.

  • The ship conducted survey operations on OPR-W386-TJ-22, acquiring on sheets H13607, H13612 and H13613.
Looking Forward
  • NOAA Ship Thomas Jefferson will be conducting survey operations on OPR-W386-TJ-22 acquiring on sheets H13609, H13612, H13613, H13616, and H13617.
  • The ship will be arriving in Cleveland, OH on 17JUN2022 for scheduled inport.

OPR-K356-KR-22 Approaches to Calcasieu, LA

Recap

  • S/V Blake operations in survey area H13644 with multiple partial days due to weather (4), mechanical issues (1), and personnel (1).

OPR-R320-KR-22 Cape Newenham, AK

Recap

  • R/V Norseman II and WAM-V 22 continued MBES data acquisition in H13565, H13567, H13568, H13569, and H13570. 
  • R/V Norseman II acquired bottom samples and had all full days of survey 09JUN through 11JUN2022.
  • WAM-V 22 had full days of survey 05JUN through 08JUN2022. As of 09JUN, WAM-V 22 departed from project due to a mechanical issue.
  • R/V Thunder continued mainscheme in H13563, and conducted a patch test. R/V Thunder had a partial day of survey 05JUN, due to a transit back to Bethel. On 06JUN through 08JUN, R/V Thunder conducted a transit, reprovision, and crew change in Bethel. R/V Thunder completed partial days of survey on 09JUN and 11JUN due to transiting back to H13563 and mechanical issues. On 10JUN, R/V Thunder completed a full day of survey.
  • Office staff continued processing and reporting.

Looking Forward

  • All vessels will find a safe place to meet for a gear and supply transfer from R/V Thunder to R/V Norseman II.
  • R/V Norseman II will continue crosslines and fill in H13569 and H13570, continue MBES data acquisition in H13564, and continue bottom sample acquisition.
  • Starting 14JUN, R/V Norseman II and WAM-V 22 will transit to Homer, AK and demobilize.
  • R/V Thunder will continue MBES data acquisition in H13563 and H13564.
  • Office staff will continue processing and reporting.

OPR-Y396-KR-22 Western Lake Michigan, WI

Recap

  • R/V Benthos collected mainscheme multibeam survey data in H13635 and H13636.
  • The R/V Substantial continued the transit to the Great Lakes. During MVP maintenance and testing the free fall fish was damaged. Backup equipment is being sourced and AML is in consultation for support.
  • Data processing and reporting were conducted at GDX.

Looking Forward

  • R/V Benthos will continue the inshore MBES survey in the H13635 and H13636 and conduct investigations and fill in H13636.
  • The on-site field team will move operations from Port Washington to Sheboygan mid-week.
  • R/V Benthos will transit to the Sheboygan Marina when weather permits, and will begin surveying the nearshore area of H13637.
  • R/V Substantial will continue preparation of the MVP with support from AML, with an expected arrival on-site 15JUN2022.

OPR-R302-KR-22 Nunivak, AK

Recap

  • Qualifier 105 (Q105) and C-Worker 5 ASV (ASV) mobilization was completed in Homer, Alaska on 06JUN2022. Sea-trials, including patch-tests were successfully carried out on both vessels on 07JUN2022.
  • Mob crew, excluding transit crew, departed Homer for Palmer at end of day 07JUN2022.
  • The Q105 remained in Homer due to the vessel troubleshooting issues with its satellite internet connection, then got underway by evening of 09JUN2022 for Bethel. The vessel was still in transit for Bethel at end of day 11JUN2022.

Looking Forward

  • Q105 ETA to Bethel is 14JUN, weather permitting. Survey crew will fly to Bethel and join the vessel there. The vessel will get underway for the survey area as soon as possible after survey crew arrival.
  • Survey operations should begin on-site Nunivak 15JUN or 16JUN.
