Highlights of this edition

  • NOAA Ship Hassler resumed survey operations for OPR-J350-FH-22 Northern Gulf of Mexico.
  • eTrac's R/V Norseman II and WAM-V 22 conducted MBES data acquisition; R/V Thunder arrived in Bethel, AK, and completed mobilization.

OPR-J350-FH-22 Northern Gulf of Mexico

  • NOAA Ship Ferdinand R. Hassler returned to project on 16MAY2022, and continued survey operations on sheets H13625, H13627, and H13628.

Looking Forward

  • NOAA Ship Ferdinand R. Hassler will continue working all sheets with main priority on H13621, H13624, H13625, and H13630. Potentially open sheets H13623 and H13629. Next port call is Pascagoula, MS on 27MAY2022.

THOMAS JEFFERSON

OPR-W386-TJ-22 Approaches to Cleveland, OH

  • NOAA Ship Thomas Jefferson departed Cleveland, OH on 17MAY2022 and conducted survey operations on OPR-W386-TJ-22, acquiring on sheets H13609, H13616, H13617.

  • The ship was delayed one day getting underway due to vessel traffic in the river.
Looking Forward
  • NOAA Ship Thomas Jefferson will continue acquiring on H13609 and H13617 until its scheduled inport in Cleveland, OH on 27MAY2022.

FAIRWEATHER 

OPR-L361-FA-21 San Francisco Bay

Recap
  • Due to weather and Fleet Inspection, no acquisition occurred this week.

Looking Forward

  • NOAA Ship Fairweather will be observing crew rest and addressing Fleet Inspection findings until departing for the Inside Passage on 01JUN2022. Continued acquisition in H13543 may be possible if staffing and ship needs are met.
  • LTJG Robbins departs the ship on 26MAY for her shore assignment. LT Card will be the OPS, while awaiting LTJG Krabiel reports in December as OPS IT.

RAINIER

OPR-T381-RA-22 Mariana Islands

Recap
  • NOAA Ship Rainier continued hydrographic survey and dive operations on H13572 (Saipan), H13573 (Tinian), H13578 (Pagan), and H13579 (Maug).

  • On Sunday, a tide level buoy was deployed at Maug Islands. This buoy will be operational for 30 days and provide precise water level data to inform bathymetric surveys and future studies of sea level trends.
Looking Forward
  • NOAA Ship Rainier will continue surveying until the next port call on 02JUN2022.

OPR-Y396-KR-22 Western Lake Michigan, WI

Recap

  • R/V Benthos collected mainscheme multibeam survey data in the southern part of H13635, focusing on the nearshore areas.
  • Data processing and reporting was conducted at GDX.
  • Geodynamics operations team focused on the RV Substantial transit and logistics planning.

Looking Forward

  • R/V Benthos will continue the inshore MBES survey in the H13635 and then transition to inshore MBES survey in H13636.
  • R/V Substantial planning, logistics, and preparations for transit.

OPR-R320-KR-22 Cape Newenham, AK

Recap

  • R/V Norseman II and WAM-V 22 continued MBES data acquisition in H13565. R/V Norseman II completed crosslines in H13565 and began MBES data acquisition in H13567 and H13568.
  • R/V Thunder arrived in Bethel, AK via a transportation barge on 17MAY2022. R/V Thunder's mobilization was completed by the crew in Bethel, AK. R/V Thunder preformed a patch test and began transit to survey site.
  • Office staff continued processing and reporting.

Looking Forward

  • All vessels will find a safe place to meet for a gear and supply transfer from R/V Thunder to R/V Norseman II.
  • R/V Norseman II and WAM-V 22 will continue MBES data acquisition in H13568 & H13567.
  • R/V Thunder will begin MBES data acquisition in H13566.
  • Office staff will continue processing and reporting.
