S-R364-KR-21 Bering Sea Reconnaissance Survey

Recap
  • SD1030 and SD1034 made progress along route “3b” before the mission ended.
  • SD1033 and SD1067 finished route “3a” and were on their way to assist with “3b” when the mission ended.
  • The positive trends in power generation last week did not continue and power levels rapidly began to deteriorate on the vehicles this week. Noting a steep downward trend in state of charge, and with no expectation of the conditions improving, Saildrone made the decision to route all vehicles for Dutch Harbor earlier than planned for the safety of the vehicles. SD1033 and SD1067 were the first to begin transit, at about 22:00 on 10/7. SD1030 and SD34 then began transit on 10/8 at about 19:00 (UTC). They had completed about 61 of the planned 65 days.
  • The vehicles were not in close proximity to any whaling buffer zones this week.
  • Mission Days completed as of end of day 09OCT2021 (UTC): 61 (of 65 planned)
Looking Forward
  • Estimating about 7-10 days of transit to Dutch Harbor, the vehicles should be in Dutch Harbor or approaching Dutch Harbor by 16OCT. There they will be demob’d and packed for shipment back to California.
  • The vehicles are not expected to be in the vicinity of any whaling buffer zones this week.
  • Since the mission has ended, this is the final weekly report.
