Highlights of this edition

  • NOAA Ship Fairweather resumed acquisitions on OPR-P358-FA-21 Prince William Sound, AK. The field unit also conducted UAS testing in conjunction with RSD Augmenters in Odiak Channel.
  • DEA continued hydrographic survey operations in OPR-J315-KR-21 Pascagoula, MS. They are currently in port for Tropical Storm Fred and will be monitoring Tropical Depression Grace.

  • Ferdinand R. Hassler filled all holidays on H13474, and continued work on sheets H13475 and H13476. Sheet H13477 was opened and is 50% complete.

OPR-E349-TJ-21 Central Chesapeake Bay, MD

FAIRWEATHER 

OPR-P358-FA-21 Prince William Sound, AK

Recap
  • Fairweather surveyed on H13418, H13422, and H13433. The last day of acquisition was 12AUG2021, when they commenced in port transit.

  • The field unit conducted UAS testing in conjunction with RSD Augmenters on 10AUG, 11AUG, and 12AUG in Odiak Channel. 
Looking Forward
  • Fairweather plans to retrieve shore power cables in Juneau on 14AUG, and continuing transit to inport in Ketchikan, AK, on 17AUG.

Recap
  • Blake acquisition in survey areas H13488 and H13489.
  • Broughton acquisition in survey area H13487.
  • One day down for Blake repairs and two weather days.
Looking Forward
  • Currently in port for Tropical Storm Fred.
  • Resume survey operations with Blake in H13489 and Broughton in H13487.
  • Monitor Tropical Depression Grace.
  • Scheduled crew rotation / port call 20AUG 2021.

OPR-Y390-KR-21 Green Bay, WI

Recap
  • All vessels continued main scheme collection in H13473 using multi-vessel acquisition.
  • RV Endeavor collected investigation and fill data in H13470 and H13472.
  • RV Rapid collected investigation and fill data in H13472 and H13473 and cross lines in H13473.
  • Weather hours occurred on 11AUG and 12AUG2021. RV Voxel had mechanical issues on 13AUG and 14AUG.
Looking Forward
  • RV Endeavor will complete bottom sample acquisition.
  • RV Endeavor and RV Rapid will complete mainscheme collection in H13473 and fill in H13467, H13470, H13472, and H13473.
  • RV Voxel will complete a closing patch test and will be hauled out in Oconto, WI.

OPR-K380-KR-21 Port Freeport & Approaches, TX

Recap
  • The MV Atlantic Surveyor continued survey operations on H13503 (Sheet 2) and H13506 (Sheet 5).
  • The RV Oyster Bay II and the field office were demobilized.
Looking Forward
  • The MV Atlantic Surveyor survey operations will continue on H13503 (Sheet 2) and H13506 (Sheet 5).

OPR-Z394-KR-21 White Fish Bay, MI

 

Recap
  • The RV Northstar Challenger continued 24‐hour survey operations with a port call mid‐week, and was able to survey through the weather conditions.
  • The RV HF Stout and RV North Cove conducted daylight survey operations as permitted by weather.
Looking Forward
  • All three boats will continue to apply remaining mileage to the three priority sheets, conduct fills and investigations, and evaluate available mileage for the overflow sheet.

OPR-R340-KR-21 Approaches to Egegik Bay, AK

Recap
  • Crew rotation in Dillingham completed as scheduled on 10AUG2021, with survey resuming 11AUG.
  • MBES collection occurred in Sheets H13438, H13440, and H13441. H13440 mainscheme collection is complete. Sealegs collected additional mainscheme data outside the bay in H13438 on 11AUG.
  • GPS buoy telemetry reports no issues as of 13AUG.
  • Surveying in H13441 at end of day 14AUG.
  • Shore crew (JOA) travelled to Egegik and Pilot Point, both installs were successful and crew returned to Anchorage.
Looking Forward
  • Prioritize H13438, and nearshore work (including Egegik Bay) with the Sealegs vessel when weather and tides allow.

S-R364-KR-21 Bering Sea Reconnaissance Survey

Recap
  • SD1033 and SD1067 continued survey along route 1a.
  • SD1030 and SD1034 continued survey along route 1b.
  • Anemometer failed on SD1033 on 10AUG2021 and not expected to return to functionality during the mission. However, the vessel is still paired with SD1067 which has a working anemometer.
  • Routes 1a and 1b were reduced in length and the vessels began following the shortened routes on 12AUG.
  • The unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) were not in close proximity to any whaling communities this week.
Looking Forward
  • The vessels will likely complete routes 1a and 1b due to their shortened length.
  • They are likely to either minimally be in transit to 2a and 2b by the end of the week, or possibly on site at 2a and 2b.
  • USVs are not scheduled to be in close proximity to any whaling communities next week.
