Highlights of this edition

  • NOAA Ship Fairweather conducted the final day of acquisition on OPR-P335-FA-21 South Kodiak, AK, and transits to resume surveying on OPR-P358-FA-21 Prince William Sound, AK.
  • Fugro concluded hydrographic operations at OPR-Q350-KR-21 Unimak, AK, and completed project demobilization on 31JUL2021.

OPR-C319-FH-21 Approaches to New York

Recap
  • Ferdinand R. Hassler continues acquisition on OPR-C319-FH-21, sheet H13474 using both MBES and SSS.

Looking Forward

  • Ferdinand R. Hassler will work on completing all acquisition on sheet H13474, to include SSS contact investigation, bottom samples (with drop camera), and holiday cleanup.
  • Once sheet H13474 completes, MBES and SSS acquisition will begin on either sheet H13475 or H13476.

THOMAS JEFFERSON 

OPR-E349-TJ-21 Central Chesapeake Bay, MD

Recap
  • Thomas Jefferson continued collecting on OPR-E349-TJ-21 Central Chesapeake Bay, H13509.

  • The ship transited from Norfolk, VA, after acquisition on 27JUL for a scheduled open bubble inport.
Looking Forward
  • Thomas Jefferson is inport for ship maintenance and crew reset.
  • The ship is scheduled to have a Change of Command 06AUG2021, and shelter in place the following week before returning to OPR-E349-TJ-21, Central Chesapeake Bay.

FAIRWEATHER 

OPR-P335-FA-21 South Coast of Kodiak Island, AK

Recap
  • Fairweather conducted the final day of acquisition on the OPR-P335-FA-21 South Kodiak project, and had 2 days in Kodiak to fuel and take on stores.

  • Fairweather transited to Prince William Sound to resume acquisition on OPR-P358-FA-21.
Looking Forward
  • Fairweather will continue acquisition in Prince William Sound on H13418, H13420, H13421, H13422, and H13433.

  • Rainier is alongside Juneau, AK, for crew rest and shelter-in-place.

  • Weather delay, resuming operations 03AUG.
  • Moving Broughton from Gulfport to Pascagoula.
  • Continue acquisition in H13487 and H13488.
  • Potential to begin mainscheme in H13489.

OPR-Y390-KR-21 Green Bay, WI

Recap
  • RV Endeavor and RV Voxel continued main scheme collection in H13470 and H13472 using multi-vessel automation on both day shift and night shift.
  • Night shift concluded on 30JUL2021.
  • RV Rapid continued main scheme collection in H13472 and collected fill and investigation data in H13469 and H13472.
  • Weather hours occurred for all vessels on 26JUL, 27JUL, 29JUL, 30JUL, and 31JUL.
Looking Forward
  • RV Rapid will continue surveying in H13470 and H13472 as well as complete Fill and Investigation plans.
  • RV Endeavor will continue surveying in H13470 and H13472 and begin bottom sample collection.
  • RV Voxel will collect remaining crosslines in all sheets.
  • Office staff will continue processing, reporting, and creating fill and investigation plans for H13467 and H13470.

OPR-Q350-KR-21 Unimak, AK

Recap
  • MV Woldstad completed survey contract mileage on 26JUL2021 and commenced transit towards Homer, AK. 
  • The skiff was secured onboard M/V Woldstad.
  • The vessel arrived in Homer early in the morning on 29 July and demobilization was completed 31JUL2021.

Looking Forward

  • MV Woldstad and the skiff are demobilized and the survey contract closed.

OPR-K380-KR-21 Port Freeport & Approaches, TX

Recap
  • The MV Atlantic Surveyor arrived Freeport, TX, 25JUL2021.Its generator that supplies power to the survey and processing labs failed on 26JUL and was repaired on 30JUL.
  • The MV Atlantic Surveyor departed late 30JUL to confirm equipment and system operations prior to commencing survey operations.
  • The RV Oyster Bay II vessel generator was replaced 25JUL, though the vessel remained in port due to a failed AC unit. The vessel’s A/C was replaced on 28JUL and survey resumed on H13503 (Sheet 2), H13506 (Sheet 5) and H13502 (Sheet 1).
  • The RV Oyster Bay II ran some initial holidays and items on H13503 (Sheet 2), H13506 (Sheet 5) and H13502 (Sheet 1).
Looking Forward
  • The MV Atlantic Surveyor survey operations will commence on H13503 (Sheet 2).
  • The RV Oyster Bay II will continue with holidays and items on H13503 (Sheet 2), H13506 (Sheet 5) and H13502 (Sheet 1).

OPR-Z394-KR-21 White Fish Bay, MI

 

Recap
  • The RV North Cove arrived at Whitefish Bay and conducted on‐site setup, testing, and calibrations.
  • The MV Northstar Challenger collected MBES/SSS coverage in H13523 & H13525.
  • The RV H.F. Stout collected MBES coverage in H13522 & H13524.
Looking Forward
  • MV Northstar Challenger will make a port call at the beginning of the week then continue to conduct 24‐hour survey operations.
  • The RV H.F. Stout and RV North Cove will conduct daytime survey operations.

OPR-K340-KR-21 Approaches to Egegik Bay, AK

Recap
  • RV Qualifier 105 (Q105) arrived in Dillingham, AK afternoon of 27JUL2021. Majority of survey crew arrived via afternoon flight from Anchorage.
  • Q105 departed Dillingham for the survey area in the evening of 27JUL.
  • Q105 arrived in the survey area morning of 28JUL and began survey in H13439.
  • Continued survey in H13439 until 31JUL, completing H13439 mainscheme.
  • Deployed GPS Tide Buoy on 31JUL.
  • Running mainscheme lines with Q105 in southern H13441 at end of day (local time) 31JUL.
  • Tide not conducive to skiff operations inside highest priority sheet H13438 this week therefore LNM was undertaken in lower priority sheets H13439 and H13441.
  • No field tide work this week; JOA is finalized gauge equipment checks and calibrations in the office and are preparing the equipment to ship to the field.
Looking Forward
  • Sealegs (skiff) operations in H13438. Tide conditions and weather forecast appear to be good for skiff work in Egegik Bay, therefore the planned recon of the bay will be prioritized this week.
  • MBES data collection H13438, H13440, and H13441.
  • JOA shore crew travelling to the field 8/3 to begin tide station installations at Egegik and Pilot Point.
