Older Adults and Social Isolation

Is there an older person in your life who is self isolating alone? Since older adults are at higher risk of health issues, physical distance will help protect them from illness. Encourage them to engage in meaningful, productive activities to boost their mood, and have a sense of purpose. Here are few things you can do:

  • Help them connect virtually to friends and family.
  • Suggest that they take breaks from watching, reading, or listening to news stories, including social media.
  • Encourage them to eat a healthy diet, get regular exercise, and stay in touch with their doctors through telehealth, if possible.
