Public Safety Open Innovation Prize Challenges


First Responder Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) Endurance Challenge: 
Stage 3 invites innovators to bring their ingenuity and drone-building expertise to create a drone prototype for first responders. From December 4th through 18th, the First Responder UAS Endurance Challenge will provide an additional entry point for all those eligible with working UAS prototypes to join the competition as walk-ons and the opportunity to compete for up to $302,000 in prizes

Differential Privacy Temporal Map Challenge invites solvers to develop algorithms and metrics that preserve data utility while guaranteeing individual privacy is protected. In the Differential Privacy Temporal Map Challenge participants will compete in a series of coding sprints using differential privacy methods on temporal map data. The best solutions will be publicly recognized and up to $276,000 in cash prizes may be awarded to top-performing teams.

Cybersecurity Profile for the Responsible Use of Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) Services

NIST has drafted guidelines for applying its Cybersecurity Framework to critical technologies such as the Global Positioning System (GPS) that use positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) data. Part of a larger NIST effort to implement a recent Executive Order to safeguard systems that rely on PNT data, these cybersecurity guidelines accompany recent NIST efforts to provide and test a resilient timekeeping signal that is independent of GPS.

NIST is accepting comments on the draft profile via email no later than November 23rd. Submission details are available at the profile website.


Prize Competition to Incentivize Bayh-Dole Compliance

The NIST Technology Partnerships Office has announced The Partners Engaged in Extramural Reporting (PEER) Prize Competition.  The PEER Prize Challenge seeks solutions to incentivize the recipients of federal R&D funding to comply with Bayh-Dole reporting requirements. The prize competition will award $10,000 in prize money spread among the top 3 finishers as determined by an expert panel of judges. The competition will accept proposals now through November 13th

Forensics@NIST 2020

Join us virtually November 5th - November 6th to learn how NIST scientists are using advanced methods in metrology, computer science and statistics to strengthen forensic science.  Topic areas to be covered include -- drugs/toxins, statistical methods in forensic science, firearms and tool marks, forensic genetics, trace and digital/multimedia.

National Cybersecurity Career Awareness Week

November 9-14, 2020 is National Cybersecurity Career Awareness Week – a week-long campaign to call attention to the contributions and innovations to society that cybersecurity practitioners make. Join us in promoting awareness & exploration of cybersecurity careers by hosting an event, participating in an event near you, or engaging students with cybersecurity content.

2020 NICE K12 Cybersecurity Education Conference

The National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) K12 Cybersecurity Education Conference will be held virtually December 7-8, 2020.  The Conference will feature timely and thought-provoking presentations that highlight effective collaborations, bold experiments and innovations, and other potentially game-changing methods in support of growing the cybersecurity workforce.

Attendees will include training and educational leaders from academia, business, and government for two days of focused hands-on workshops and discussions in support of the NICE strategic goals.
