LEGISLATION

On October 31, 2019, the Senate passed H.R. 3055, which includes four fiscal year 2020 appropriations bills, including funding for NIST in the Commerce-Justice-Science bill.  The House and Senate will now conference to reconcile differences.  Federal agencies are currently funded under the Continuing Appropriations Act, 2020 (H.R. 4378), which expires November 21st.



RECENT NEWS

Accelerate R2 Network Challenge

On October 24, 2019, NIST, the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) and the Economic Development Administration launched the Accelerate R2 Network Challenge.  This $1 million grant program will award funds to an organization(s) to connect stakeholders in the disaster response and resiliency industries across the country to accelerate the pace of technological innovations.  The deadline to submit letters of intent for this grant opportunity is January 8, 2020.    



Cybersecurity Career Awareness

November 11 – 16, 2019 is National Cybersecurity Career Awareness Week, brought to you by the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE).  This is an opportunity for government, business, education, community-based organizations, students, and workers to inspire, educate, and engage citizens to pursue careers in cybersecurity. The week-long campaign provides an opportunity to learn about the contributions and innovations of cybersecurity practitioners, and the plethora of job opportunities that can be found when exploring cybersecurity as a career choice.  Click here to learn more about how you can get involved.

2019 NICE Conference and Expo

The National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) Conference and Expo – hosted by Florida International University, New America, and Arizona State University – will be held November 18 – 20, 2019 in Phoenix, AZ.  This annual conference brings together thought leaders from industry, government, academia, and non-profit organizations to address the community’s cybersecurity education, training, and workforce needs.  Throughout the conference, attendees will have access to over 30 presentations covering best practices from around the world and across sectors. 

Information Security and Privacy Advisory Board (ISPAB) Meeting

On December 4, 2019, the Information Security and Privacy Advisory Board (ISPAB) will hold their next meeting at American University in Washington, DC.  The ISPAB advises NIST, the Department of Homeland Security and the Office of Management and Budget on information security and privacy issues pertaining to Federal government information systems.  <<READ MORE>>

 

2019 NICE K12 Cybersecurity Education Conference

On December 9-10, 2019, the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) K12 Conference will be held at the Hyatt Regency Orange County in Garden Grove, CA.   Join us as we expand the national effort to promote and increase the K12 cybersecurity education programs on-going throughout the country, and address how K12 education is uniquely positioned to accelerate learning, identify methods to best nurture a diverse learning community, and provide approaches to guide career development and workforce planning for students.
